Nutrition
Are nutrition consultations covered by insurance?
Yes. Consultations with a registered dietitian are reimbursed by most private insurance plans.
You will receive a receipt at the end of your consultation to facilitate your reimbursement claim. However, we recommend checking the details of your coverage directly with your insurer.
Do I need a medical referral to consult a dietitian?
No. You can book an appointment directly with our registered dietitian without a medical referral.
Are consultations with a dietitian covered by insurance?
Most private insurance plans provide coverage for the services of a registered dietitian. We recommend checking your policy with your insurer to confirm your coverage.
Is a nutrition consultation only for weight loss?
No. Clinical nutrition can help prevent, treat, or better manage many health conditions, including diabetes, high cholesterol, certain digestive disorders, and several chronic diseases.
Weight management may be part of the plan when appropriate, but it is never the only goal.
How many nutrition consultations will I need?
Every person and every situation is different. Some people may benefit from a single consultation, while others may benefit from regular follow-ups to achieve longer-term goals.
Your dietitian can recommend a follow-up schedule tailored to your situation and goals.
Can my dietitian collaborate with my nurse practitioner?
Yes. When appropriate, Mariana can collaborate with other professionals at SSMT Clinique Médicale to integrate nutrition into your care plan and ensure coordinated care.
Will I receive a meal plan?
When appropriate, your dietitian will provide personalized recommendations and tools tailored to your health, food preferences, and lifestyle.

The Pap smear is an examination specifically designed to detect abnormal cervical cells, often caused by HPV, in order to prevent cervical cancer. In contrast, STD/STI (Sexually Transmitted Disease/ Sexually Transmitted Infection) screening aims to detect a variety of infections, such as chlamydia, gonorrhea, HIV, and herpes, which can affect various parts of the body. Each test plays a crucial role in sexual health, but they target different concerns.

Travel health clinic
Why a travel consultation?
I’m leaving soon, is it too late to get the recommended vaccines?
Not necessarily! It depends on your destination, the required vaccines, and how soon you’re departing. Some vaccines, like those for hepatitis A or yellow fever, require a few weeks to become fully effective. Others, such as the typhoid vaccine, can provide protection more quickly and may be administered even at the last minute.
In any case, it’s crucial to visit a travel clinic as soon as possible. Even if some vaccines take time, other preventive measures can be implemented, such as antimalarial medications, food and water safety tips, or recommendations to avoid mosquito bites.
Don’t let timing discourage you! A consultation will help you understand the risks and make the best decisions to safeguard your health, even with an upcoming departure.
General nursing

Holter or CardioSTAT?
The Holter and CardioSTAT are both tests that record the heart’s activity, but over different durations.
In practice, CardioSTAT is often preferred for its comfort, as it is a small, wireless, discreet, and water-resistant sensor, unlike the Holter which uses wires and an external device.
The Holter is typically worn for 24 to 48 hours and is suited for frequent symptoms, whereas the CardioSTAT can be worn for up to 14 days, making it more effective at capturing occasional symptoms and increasing the chances of detecting an abnormality.
